Soil and groundwater contaminated with Perchloroethene (PCE) was discovered at the a dry cleaner site in Columbus, Indiana during a Phase I Investigation. In an effort to bring the remedial efforts to an effective closure, Mundell was retained by a partnering consulting firm to evaluate the stability of the dissolved organic plume using groundwater flow and chemical transport modeling……Read More »
Investigation and Remediation Portfolio
Investigation – Rapid Delineation of MTBE Plume
Mundell initiated an expedited site investigation at a petroleum facility location near an elementary school to delineate the extent of an MTBE plume and implement remedial measures. By completing over 131 direct-push soil borings and sampling 45 monitoring wells across a wide area, Mundell was able to limit the number of groundwater monitoring wells to the precise number necessary for long-term monitoring and to complete the investigation in approximately half the normal time……Read More »
Wind Farm Area Assessment – Benton County, Indiana
Mundell performed a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) over a tract of land in Benton County for a proposed wind energy conversion facility. This unique ESA included special ‘large-tract’ observation techniques and records searches. Results of the Phase I ESA allowed for the future development of the Benton County Wind Farm, with no significant environmental concerns observed that would hinder the proposed construction within this area……Read More »
Addressing Completed Exposure Pathways at a Petroleum Site
At a site with a historic gasoline release, Mundell supervised the installation of carbon filtration systems in homes found to have drinking water impacts, conducted drinking water samples from over twenty surrounding homes and at a nearby school to verify that no other drinking water sources were impacted, and installed two air mitigation systems in order to address vapor intrusion concerns within the on-site station building……Read More »
Delineation of Impacts and Vapor Intrusion Mitigation Associated with a Former Dry Cleaner
Mundell was retained to provide consulting services at a former dry cleaner facility in Muncie, Indiana, where, despite several phases of subsurface investigation by other consultants, chlorinated volatile organic compound (cVOC) soil and groundwater impacts were not delineated on-site. Among the activities Mundell completed included collecting groundwater grab samples at on- and off-site Geoprobe™ soil boring locations to provide a semi-quantitative assessment of the relative distribution and concentration of downgradient cVOC impacts and completing a geophysical assessment to identify possible subsurface conduits. Mundell’s aggressive and thorough investigative actions over a one-year period provided a more concise and detailed understanding of the environmental issues associated with the site……Read More »
