Mundell acted as grant project manager and coordinated all technical task activities, communication and submittals to the U.S. EPA for a scientific study to determine if air quality was more likely impaired near low income and minority populations. A GIS based approached was used for this environmental justice grant to the United States Environmental Protection Agency Region V on behalf of the Indianapolis Urban League Environmental Coalition. The results of the relational data evaluation indicated that low-income citizens and people of color are disproportionately located near Toxic Release Inventory facilities in Marion County. As a result, there is a greater potential for impact to these populations’ health from these facilities than the average Marion County population and certain areas were targeted for increased future monitoring……Read More »

Investigation – Rapid Delineation of MTBE Plume
Mundell initiated an expedited site investigation at a petroleum facility location near an elementary school to delineate the extent of an MTBE plume and implement remedial measures. By completing over 131 direct-push soil borings and sampling 45 monitoring wells across a wide area, Mundell was able to limit the number of groundwater monitoring wells to the precise number necessary for long-term monitoring and to complete the investigation in approximately half the normal time……Read More »
Reducing Long-Term Monitoring Costs – Modifying the Sampling Program as COCs Change
Mundell successfully negotiated with the regulatory agency at a LUST site to remove unnecessary sampling of one SVOC compand. This analysis saved the client more than $17,000 per year in sampling while still adequately monitoring the contaminants of concern in the groundwater……Read More »
Wind Farm Area Assessment – Benton County, Indiana
Mundell performed a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) over a tract of land in Benton County for a proposed wind energy conversion facility. This unique ESA included special ‘large-tract’ observation techniques and records searches. Results of the Phase I ESA allowed for the future development of the Benton County Wind Farm, with no significant environmental concerns observed that would hinder the proposed construction within this area……Read More »
Wellfield Exploration for an Ethanol Plant using Deep 2-D Resistivity
Mundell was contracted to use geophysical methods to locate potential wellfields for an ethanol plant in central Indiana, within a three square mile area. Mundell used two-dimensional electrical resistivity (2D resistivity) profiling to locate aquifer bearing material in this area. A single test well, located in the recommended drilling area, consistently yielded 1000 gallons per minute, which was more than sufficient to satisfy the demand of the ethanol plant……Read More »
