Public Relations with a Community Affected by Petroleum Constituents in Drinking Water
Mundell personnel cultivated a collaborative relationship with IDEM officials and established rapport with a community effected by a gasoline release. Mundell created audience appropriate documents to inform school and county officials and the greater community of potential health risks, investigation events, and remedial progress. As on-site work progresses through the cleanup phase, the multifaceted communication efforts continue to provide cost effective, timely dissemination of information regarding remedial progress……Read More »
Comprehensive Operation and Maintenance Program
In an effort to reduce groundwater treatment system costs, Mundell decided to turn over the operation and maintenance (O&M) of one of its remediation systems to a sub-contractor located much closer to the system than Mundell. Mundell developed and then trained the sub-contractor using the step by step written guidelines for all routine maintenance procedures, site visit procedures, and sampling procedures. These procedures allow Mundell to retain responsible oversight of the system O&M with minimal time invested……Read More »
GIS Analysis Indicates Chemical Risks Present for Urban Communities
Mundell acted as grant project manager and coordinated all technical task activities, communication and submittals to the U.S. EPA for a scientific study to determine if air quality was more likely impaired near low income and minority populations. A GIS based approached was used for this environmental justice grant to the United States Environmental Protection Agency Region V on behalf of the Indianapolis Urban League Environmental Coalition. The results of the relational data evaluation indicated that low-income citizens and people of color are disproportionately located near Toxic Release Inventory facilities in Marion County. As a result, there is a greater potential for impact to these populations’ health from these facilities than the average Marion County population and certain areas were targeted for increased future monitoring……Read More »
Reducing Long-Term Monitoring Costs – Modifying the Sampling Program as COCs Change
Mundell successfully negotiated with the regulatory agency at a LUST site to remove unnecessary sampling of one SVOC compand. This analysis saved the client more than $17,000 per year in sampling while still adequately monitoring the contaminants of concern in the groundwater……Read More »
